Brown Bag Lunch Program

Trinity United Church (TUC) is an affirming, inclusive community committed to social and environmental justice and caring for those in need. Through its Outreach Committee, TUC works to address food insecurity in Cobourg by supporting individuals experiencing poverty, housing instability, and social marginalization.

With support from the congregation and a number of grants, the Brown Bag Lunch Program provides nutritious, accessible meals just steps from the shelter services hub at 310 Division Street. 

These lunches are distributed from 11:30 - noon on Wednesday mornings.

By removing transportation and access barriers, the program helps ensure food reaches those who need it most. Each week, volunteers purchase supplies and assemble approximately 30 bagged lunches, including fresh fruit, sandwiches, soup, granola bars, baked goods, and juice boxes. The program also provides clothing and personal care items when needed and distributes over 1,500 lunches annually.

Food is sourced through congregational and local restaurant donations, as well as Food for All, helping reduce food waste and support a more sustainable, community-based food system. Volunteer-led preparation fosters strong community engagement while keeping the program efficient and responsive.
